The Chef Joey Schilling Memorial Foundation supports and assists aspiring chefs to fulfill their dreams in the field of culinary arts.
Joey was a role model for the staff who worked alongside him as the Chef de Cuisine at Bayside Resort Golf Club. He had a passion for culinary arts, a talent for creating amazing dishes, and the drive to teach others. The Foundation hopes to provide opportunities for aspiring chefs in partnership with Culinary Institutions.
Joseph “Joey” Schilling passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2022 from heart related complications of his second stem cell transplant. He was 30 years old.
Joey had a brief but amazing life. He lived in 9 places: Massachusetts, Kansas, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Malaysia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware. He also traveled quite a bit with his parents and sister. Together, they visited 24 countries where Joey was able to experience many of the world’s most famous sites including the Parthenon and beautiful islands in Greece, the Colosseum and the Vatican in Italy, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building and Freedom Tower in NYC, the CN Tower in Toronto, Big Ben in London, the windmills and tulips of The Netherlands, and the rainforest in Puerto Rico. Additionally, he ziplined in Costa Rica, bungee jumped in New Zealand, and went on safari in South Africa where he pet cheetah cubs (a lifelong dream!). All these experiences helped create the amazing person he was and develop his incredible culinary skills – a winning combination that led to appearances on Delmarva Life, the region’s evening news program.
Starting at a young age, Joey was always helping his dad in the kitchen. He loved it so much that he decided to pursue it professionally. He graduated from The International Culinary Center in 2015 and worked at many great restaurants during his career as a chef – most recently as the Chef de Cuisine at Signatures in Bayside (Selbyville, DE). Cooking was his passion, and he was fortunate to do what he loved every day. Joey made an impression on everyone he met both in and out of the kitchen with his positive demeanor, kindness, and unforgettable sense of humor. Life will never be the same without him.
Your generous contribution will help continue Joey’s legacy and support aspiring chefs in achieving their culinary dreams.
