Joey was such a lovable guy
That is a fact no one can deny
With jokes and smiles and great things to eat
Joey made friends with all he would meet
Animals, humans, both young and old
Knew Joey was special – he broke the mold
He brightened up any room he walked in
Goofing off, making fun, always with a grin
Joey had 2 true loves in his life
One he had planned on making his wife
The other was fluffy and all black and white
A kitten named Pepper who was his delight
Carly knows how important she is
In the future we wanted, she would have been his
I’m thankful she gave him the chance to know love
She made him better than any time I can think of
The last conversation we ever had
He said he was tired, things were so bad
He fought like a champ for 3 decades
No one can blame him for needing to fade
His transplants, his bad heart, his hip surgeries
He went through so much, he is fin’lly at ease
Though it seems quick, like he left us too soon
We all have our limits, no one is immune
Joey spent time on this earth to show us
That kindness and laughter and love are a must
You’d never suspect all that he went through
(Well, except for the fact that he never grew)
On Joey’s last day, on his way to a test
My dad gave the phone to him at my request
“Just wanted to say I love you!” I said
“Love you, sis” he replied, and his angel wings spread
